The Calliope Center is located in Viroqua, a small town in the beautiful rolling hills of Southwestern Wisconsin.
The Driftless Region (so named because the glaciers did not drift here, leaving us our hills and valleys) is home to many interesting features, both geological and social. Many people travel here for the natural beauty, particularly our miles of hiking and biking trails and the 8500 acre Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Another draw is the alternative health care community, which includes chiropractors, massage therapists, mental health professionals, acupuncturists, yoga instructors, tai chi and martial arts experts, nutritionists, homeopaths, and many more practitioners whose mission is to help people align with their highest good. Pathways to Wellness is a not-for-profit organization that promotes access to and communication among these service providers. Conventional health care here also has an excellent reputation and the two approaches are integrated at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Vernon County is host to the Organic Valley Cooperative Family of Farms, a leader in the organic farming community, and our local grocery stores, particularly the Viroqua Food Co-op, are overflowing with local organic produce.
If you travel here, consider staying an extra day or two to go canoeing, rock-climbing, mountain biking tour an organic farm, or attend our community's First Friday poetry readings and other events. We'll be happy to help you make the necessary arrangements.
If, on the other hand, you find yourself interested in our workshops and retreats but are unable to travel to Viroqua, we are available to bring workshops to you. We have experience training teachers, business professionals, teens, and community leaders. We are also interested in facilitating processes for men's groups, women's groups, and other established organizations to deepen their group experience. Please contact us for more information about travel possibilities.
A word about workshop fees: We want everyone interested in personal development to have access to the resources they deem most appropriate. Therefore, we do not want to turn anyone away for lack of funds. We also acknowledge that an energy exchange of some kind is important both to the workshop facilitator and to the person committing to the work. We don't want to burn out, and we have seen that those who put resources behind their commitments are more likely to keep them. So, if you have an alternative exchange proposal, we welcome it! Just contact us with your ideas.
