The twenty-two poems in Prudence Tippins's current collection of poetry, Faces of the Goddess, explore life from the perspectives of different women in various stages of life and in varying situations.
A disenchanted wife and a fairy tale princess mingle with a recent widow on a morning walk, an overwhelmed mother, and a polite elder speculating on the origins of her cancer. "Sister Maple" finds the sweetness of winter deep inside, and "Ego" tries to crash the forty-year-old's party.

Dark Chocolate
Warming between my lips
It softens
Loosening its tense hold
On the flavor of desire
I draw it in slowly
Slipping it gently to the tongue-bed
Sliding safely over
Razor white teeth
Buds caress its sides
It melts to liquid touch
Bending back in tentative release
Stretching wide, merging
Formless now, it spreads its nectar
With abandon over the tongue
Sweet, smooth softness now, oh!
Now, sharp astringency
Gliding from lip to palate
Fearless now of teeth and destiny
Gently, finally, descending
Leaving only the bitterness of goodbye.
